Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD), Pneumonia, Lung cancer and Tuberculosis are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide and result in an economic and social burden that is both substantial and increasing. We, in the Division of Pulmonology and Critical care medicine are also caring for patients with other important pulmonary diseases; bronchiectasis and hemoptysis, pleural diseases, pulmonary vascular diseases, interstitial lung diseases, sleep and ventilatory disorders and lung transplantation.

Two specialized clinics are organized in Chonnam National University(CNU) hospital and CNU Hwasun hospital for the purpose of specialized patient Care, Research and Education. Chronic Lung Diseases Clinic in CNUH focuses on COPD, Tuberculosis, Pneumonia and Respiratory failure, whereas in Lung Cancer Clinic in CNUhH(Hwasun) focuses on Lung cancer, interstitial lung diseases and pulmonary vascular diseases. Both clinics are conducting multidisciplinary team approach with chest surgeons, diagnostic radiologists, nuclear medicine specialists, pathologists, rehabilitation specialists and radiation oncologists.

As many of the pulmonary diseases are preventable via smoking cessation, we are also organizing smoking cessation clinic in both hospitals. Basic and Clinical Researches are mainly focused on COPD, Lung Cancer, Pneumonia, Tuberculosis and Respiratory failure.
